Mr. Ihde has over 21 years experience as an emergency planner as a member of the Nuclear Planning and Response Program with the Arkansas Department of Health. The program was established by the Arkansas legislature following the Three Mile Island incident in 1979 to assist local governments around Arkansas Nuclear One to plan for and, if necessary, respond to a local radiological incident. His duties with the program included:
- Maintaining and updating state and county radiological emergency response plans
- Reviewing plans and procedures for compliance with federal regulations
- Acting as liaison with local, state and federal agencies
- Developing and implementing various training programs for local responders
- Working with schools and industries to develop emergency plans
- Participated in numerous emergency response drills at Arkansas Nuclear One
He also spent ten years acting as the public information officer for Nuclear Planning and Response and spent five years in broadcast news, including several years as News Director for KARV radio, before joining the program.
He is currently a doctoral student at Nova Southeastern University.
