Scholarship is a key component of the Emergency Administration and Management department. Faculty are involved in various research projects dealing with emergency management and hazards. Some research projects utilize student assistance along with collaboration among various faculty members.
Current research involves a Hazards Assessment for Arkansas Tech. This will be followed up with a Disaster Plan for the University. A collaborative project is underway examining response issues with evacuees from Hurricane Katrina relocated to Pope County, Arkansas.
Other projects involve examination of response issues with Hurricanes Charley and Ivan following the 2004 hurricane season.

Application of modeling and simulation and project management technologies.
Modeling and simulation research is focused on both before and after event situations. For before event we are seeking ways to improve our capability to predict the impacts of potential hazards. After event focus is on comparing modeling results to the actual occurrence as a method for improving predictions. Modeling and Simulation covers both natural and man-made hazards.
Project management research includes assessing activities in all four phases of emergency management and developing productivity standards based on historical research. This baseline can then be further evaluated to identify ways to improve the efficiency and quality of the processes. Project Management technology is an excellent research tool for capturing and comparing this information.
