Dr. Garner’s previous position was as Director of the Geospatial Information Science Program at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Prior to UA-Fort Smith he worked for the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) at the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville. His has graduate degrees is in GeoSciences (MS) and a doctorial degree in Environmental Dynamics (ENDY) both from the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville. His Thesis and Doctorial Dissertation projects used advanced spatial technologies to identify and assess Wildland-Urban Interface issues in Rural Arkansas.
Dr. Garner has been involved in teaching and/or research since 1978 and has over 15 years experience teaching and using geospatial technologies; geographic information system (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS) and remote sensing (RS) technology. He has worked on numerous state-wide landuse/landcover and hazard assessment projects.
Dr. Garner’s research interests are in computer modeling, landscape metrics, Wildland-Urban Interface issues, rural hazards and Firewise using advanced technologies such as GIS, GPS and RS. These include building wildland fuel models, rural risk assessment and short term climate change effects on wildland fuels. |
